Bathroom Design. Let the light in!- Sassafras project

Bathroom Design Brief

The original bathroom was located in an internal part of the home with no access to natural light, making the space feel dark, enclosed, and impractical for daily use. It lacked functional storage, had outdated fittings, and did not cater to the varying height requirements of a family.

The client’s design wishes for their new bathroom included the following priorities:

  • Introduce natural light to brighten and make the space feel open and airy.

  • Incorporate ample, functional. well-planned storage solutions

  • Install a walk-in shower with adjustable shower heads to suit taller family members

  • Create a clean, uncluttered look upon entry

  • Achieve a sense of calm, warmth, and openness for a relaxing feeling

  • Provide appropriate lighting for grooming, makeup application, and general use

Design Outcome

By choosing a feature textured tile for the rear shower wall, it provides a wonderful focal point. It leads the eye up with its vertical lines to the gorgeous skylight, natural light and view of the sky, as well as emphasising the high ceilings the bathroom has. We kept the matching tile in the same colour tones, and along with the warmth of the timber vanity, it makes the bathroom feel more spacious, calm, warm and airy. The use of large drawers in the vanity unit, shaving cabinet, and shower area has maximised extra storage. Within the shower space, three wall niches have been added to provide storage for shampoos, soaps, and other essentials. However, due to their location, they are hidden from sight, which helps maintain the clean and tidy appearance of the bathroom. Finally, an organic-shaped pendant light has been added to the side of the mirrors to add an extra light source and a beautiful design feature. With the toilet located to the left of the doorway upon entering, its position is practical but not visible upon looking into the bathroom. The client loves how their new bathroom feels bright, spacious, and serene, with thoughtful storage, natural light from the skylight, and elegant design details that create both beauty and functionality.
